Dominik Hasek: when the unexpected happens…
When the National Hockey League (NHL) decided to allow its players to compete in the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998, rumour had it at the final would see Canada versus the USA. Surprise in the quarter-finals: the Czechs crushed the USA (4-1). Goalkeeper Hašek stopped no fewer than 38 shots at goal by the opposing team. The team therefore met the Canadians in the semi-final in one of the most sensational matches in Olympic history. With outstanding efficiency in front of his goal, Dominik led the Czech Republic to an unexpected Olympic title.
